How does TELIFU work?

What is VoIP?
TELIFU works on a technology called VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). VoIP enables the transmission of voice data over the Internet using a voice adapter. By utilizing the power of the Internet, rather than the traditional phone network, TELIFU can deliver more powerful features and greater cost savings.

Can I change My TELIFU phone numbers?
Yes. Please contact Customer Support to change a TELIFU phone number. A small facilitation fee will be charged for this change.

Do I need a Broadband Connection to use TELIFU?
Yes. You can use DSL or Cable, but you must have a high-speed connection to use TELIFU Service. Your modem speed needs to be at least 100 kbps upstream and downstream to use TELIFU Service.

How to order broad band connection in India?
Our preferred Broadband providers are MTNL, BSNL Data one,Tata/VSNL Broadband, Airtel Broadband.
We recommend to go with plans that offer atleast 400MB of data transfer per month

Do I need a computer to use your service?
No. TELIFU Service operates independently of the computer. You do need a broadband connection - either cable or DSL. TELIFU is easy to install and once you have it installed; all you will need to do is pick up the handset and talk as you would normally.

How do I make and receive calls?
No different than how you would call individuals in the US/Canada.

For example:
1) Making calls from Host Country (India, Pakistan, Europe etc) to Home Country (US/Canada)
Pick up the phone and dial 1-Area Code-Phone Number. So if an individual's phone number in the US is 510-123-4567, then your family/friends in India would dial, 1-510-123-4567

2) Making calls from Home Country (US/Canada) to Host Country (India, Pakistan, Europe etc)
Pick up the phone and dial 1-Area Code-Phone Number. So if an individual's Telifu phone number is 650-222-1212, then your family/friends in India would dial, 1-650-222-1212. Similarly, any number in the US/Canada can be dialed accordingly.

Calling your home country (for example India), would be like calling any number in US or Canada. (example: 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx)

Can I work on my computer and talk on the phone at the same time?
Yes. TELIFU Service works independent of your computer, so you can make and receive calls while surfing the web.

How does the sound quality compare to my current phone?
You'll find the quality is typically better than a cell phone and usually as good as a landline. You may experience some hiccups in sound quality if your broadband connection is running slowly or if your bandwidth is stretched with additional data (sending or receiving files from your PC at the same time).

Can I use my traditional phone service if I sign up for TELIFU Service?
Yes. Your regular phone service is not affected by TELIFU Service. TELIFU Service operates through your broadband connection and does not interfere with your regular phone service.

Will my dial-up connection work with TELIFU Service?
No, you will need a broadband or high-speed Internet connection. To deliver good voice quality, TELIFU service needs about 100 kbps of bandwidth, whereas the best that Dial-up can deliver is about 64 kbps.

 

Installation

How easy is it to install TELIFU Service?
Installing TELIFU Service is very simple. If you have a cable modem attached to either your computer or a router, you can have TELIFU Service up and running in about 15 minutes. If you're installing TELIFU Service using DSL or have special requirements, your installation may involve a few added steps, but it is still relatively easy. If you have any questions or difficulties, you can always get help by contacting our TELIFU Customer Support.

Step 1: Install TELIFU Adapter

To install the TELIFU adapter, follow the instructions below.

 

  • Insert one end of standard RJ-45 Ethernet cable (included) into the WAN port. The other end of the cable should be connected to internet via you DSL/Cable Modem.
  • Insert the power adapter cable into the 12V power adapter cable receptacle. Ensure that the power adapter jack is snugly attached to the TELIFU phone adapter
  • Insert a standard RJ-11 telephone cable into the phone port
  • Connect the other end of the cable to an analog telephone
  • Wait for 20 seconds and you can start making phone calls
  • If you want to network your computer, insert one end of the standard RJ-45 Ethernet Cable (not included) into LAN port of Telifu Adapter and the other end into your computer's Ethernet port *
Note: Do not connect the RJ-11 from ATA to your wall jack. This is VoIP telephone port and not the regular PSTN port. This could potentially destroy the ATA and void its warranty.

 


Step 2: Make Or Receive Calls

Making calls from Host Country (India, Pakistan, Europe etc) to Home Country (US/Canada)

1) Pick up the phone and dial 1-Area Code-Phone Number. So if an individual's phone number in the US is 510-123-4567, then your family/friends in India would dial, 1-510-123-4567


Making calls from Home Country (US/Canada) to Host Country (India, Pakistan, Europe etc)
Pick up the phone and dial 1-Area Code-Phone Number. So if an individual's Telifu phone number is 650-222-1212, then your family/friends in India would dial, 1-650-222-1212. Similarly, any number in the US/Canada can be dialed accordingly.

When it rings, just pick up your handset like you usually do

Is there a difference between using DSL or a Cable modem when using TELIFU Service?
Both DSL and cable modem services provide sufficient broadband bandwidth to support TELIFU Service. As long as your speed is above 100 kbps, your modem will support TELIFU Service.

Do I need a router for my TELIFU Service?
If you received your equipment directly from TELIFU, you may not need a router.

Can I use my current telephone equipment with TELIFU Service?
Yes, if it is a touch-tone phone and can be plugged into the TELIFU ATA (the provided adapter).

How do I sign up for TELIFU Service?
You can sign up for TELIFU service online. Or if you would rather speak to a representative who will walk you through the online sign up process, contact TELIFU Customer Support.


Can I get a phone number from another area or city?
Yes, you can get a TELIFU Anywhere Number. An Anywhere Number allows you to choose a number with an area code outside your local calling area. During sign-up, you are given a choice of nationwide area codes.

Can I get a phone number from another country?
Sure you can. Currently the following countries phone numbers are available. Since we have limited quantity of numbers available, the country you are looking for may not be available and costs per country area codes may vary.

What if the Phone Adapter is not working? How do I replace it.
Begin by calling Telifu customer support in the country where the Adapter is. Please note, currently only US and India is supported from a logistical perspective.

If a phone adapter needs to be replaced and if within the warranty period, Telifu would facilitate the logistics of replacing the unit.

What if I need to upgrade/downgrade my service
Not a problem. Call Telifu customer support and we would be gladly assist you with that change.

What happens to my service if I move?
It moves with you. All you need is a broadband connection where you moved and everything should work as usual.
However, do call  TELIFU Customer Support to make a change to your home address.

 

 

Billing

I heard that taxes associated with Internet phone service are significantly less than with regular phone service. Is this true?
Presently, Internet phone service is classified as an "interstate enhanced service" that is exempt from state regulation, as well as from state and local fees and taxes that apply to traditional telephone companies. Congress and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have initiated proceedings regarding the regulation of Internet phone services, which may affect future tax policies.

What taxes and surcharges will I have to pay for with TELIFU?
Currently there are no taxes, however you are liable to pay a small regulatory of $2.49 each per month.

Will I receive a paper invoice?
No, you will not receive a paper invoice. TELIFU will automatically bill your credit card and send you an email notice that your account had been charged. For account and call detail information, you can view your invoice and your payment history by logging into your My TELIFU account.

When will my credit card be charged?
You will first be charged on the date that your TELIFU equipment is shipped. You will then be charged automatically either monthly or annually based on your monthly usage and plan anniversary.

When does the Trial Period Start?
Your Trial period will begin 7 days after the date of shipment of TELIFU adapter to you. This is to allow for sufficient time for adapter receipt and setup at the customer premises.

What payment options are available?
TELIFU accepts PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. You must use a credit card to purchase TELIFU Service. You may also use a debit or check card, as long as it works like a credit card (carries a Visa or MasterCard logo on the front).

What if I want to discontinue my TELIFU Service?
If you choose to discontinue using TELIFU Service, simply notify Customers Support.
You are NOT required to return your equipment FIRST in order to terminate your service. Call customer support, cancel the service and then return the Telephone Adapter to your nearest TELIFU restocking depot. A processing fee of $29.99 will be assessed.
However, if you are canceling within the first 30 days of purchase, you qualify for our 30 Day Risk-Free Guarantee and no charges* will be assesed.

How do I change the credit card number that I have associated with my TELIFU account?
You can change your billing address information through your My TELIFU account :

  • Log into your My TELIFU account
  • Click the Edit Billing Information
  • Scroll down to the Credit Card Information section and click Change
  • Enter in your updated credit card information and click Save

How do I update my billing address information?
You can change your credit card information through your My TELIFU account :

  • Log into your My TELIFU account
  • Click the Edit Billing Information
  • Click the Change button under Billing Address
  • Enter  your updated address and click Save

How can I view my most recent invoice online?
Follow these steps to view your most recent invoice online from your My TELIFU account :

  • Log into your My TELIFU account
  • Click the Account Balance
  • Select statements from the menu
  • Click the View Invoice Details link under the Current Invoice Summary Section

How can I view previous invoices online?
Follow these steps to view your previous invoices online from your My TELIFU account :

  • Log into your My TELIFU account
  • Click  the Account Balance
  • Select statements from the left hand menu
  • Underneath the Previous Invoice Summary section, click on the View Invoice Details link beside the invoice that you would like to see

 

 

Traveling & Moving

Can I travel with my TELIFU Service?
One of the great benefits of TELIFU Service is that you can take your number anywhere in the world. Bring your TELIFU equipment with you and connect it anywhere that you get a high-speed connection. You'll be able to make and receive calls as if you were home. 

Cancellation Policy

Prior to returning the Device to us, you must obtain a valid Return Authorization Number (RMA) from our customer care department, which can be reached at support@TELIFU.com or 1-877-7-TELIFU. Please refer to Terms Of Use for more details. Failure to obtain RMA will result in returns processing fees of $29.99 and cost of return shipping of $9.99.

Cancel during Trial Period:

  • Trial period is defined as 250 minutes of free calling (inbound & outbound) or 30 days of free calling, which ever comes first.
  • If you need to cancel, simply call Telifu Customer support and close your account. No cancellation charge will be assessed. We thank you for giving us an opportunity to serve you. Setup Fee and Shipping Charges (if applicable) will be refunded.
  • Please note, that it is expected that the VOIP Adapter is returned in original working condition excluding normal wear within 14 days of expiry of trial period.
    If not returned within 14 days, a recovery fee of $69.99 will be assessed.

Cancel after the Trial Period:
  • A processing fee of US $ 29.99 assessed to close the account.
  • After the free trial period shipping costs to return the VOIP Adapter back to our stocking depot would be borne by the customer.
  • Please note, that it is expected that the VOIP Adapter be returned in original working condition excluding normal wear within 14 days of expiry of trial period.
    If not returned within 14 days, a recovery fee of $69.99 will be assessed.
